This private game reserve`s location in the Eastern Cape, means it is not only malaria free, but spans 4 ecosystems (valley bushveld, grassland, fynbos and riverine forest), resulting in a breath-taking diversity of flora and fauna.
Lalibela brings you comfortable accommodation with authentic African decor and is a perfect blend of the formal and informal. The two lodges, Lentaba Lodge and Mark`s Camp offer service of the highest standard and unforgettable game viewing. Traditional dishes using local ingredients is prepared by chefs.
The secluded thatched chalets are placed where magnificent indigenous gardens merge into the surrounding bush. Each en-suite unit has a private observation deck to make the most of the views over the valley bushveld.
Early morning and sunset game drives in an open vehicle with an experienced game ranger bring you face to face with a multitude of game species. Each outdoor dining `boma` has a commanding view of a waterhole, which is spotlit after dark for night game viewing.
The release of free-roaming lions onto Lalibela Game Reserve during 2003 marks this game reserve`s entry into the Big Five league. The two male lions came from the nearby Kwandwe Game Reserve and were joined by two lionesses from Limpopo Province.
Rooms Mark's Camp
This exclusive lodge sleeps 8 people in four individual chalets. Each comfortably furnished chalet has an en-suite bathroom and there is a ceiling fan for those warm summer nights. The chalets open up onto a private deck with views over the waterhole.
Between game drives, guests can relax in the large lounge, bird watch from the viewing decks or laze around the swimming pool.
Mark's Camp has an outdoor dining 'boma' for fireside dinners and open-air brunches, as well as a gracious indoor dining area.
Mark's Camp can be booked as a unit, making it particularly suitable for groups with young children.
Lentaba Lodge
The main lodge, decorated in traditional safari style, boasts a large lounge, viewing deck and a sunny swimming pool where you can spend a lazy afternoon.
Lentaba, the "lodge on the hillside", sleeps 16 people in eight secluded thatched chalets, placed where magnificent indigenous gardens merge into the surrounding bush.

Activities Early morning and sunset game drives in an open vehicle with an experienced game ranger bring you face to face with a multitude of game species, ranging from mighty elephant, rhino and buffalo to tiny blue duiker and rock hyrax.
Lalibela is also home to hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope such as eland, kudu, bushbuck and wildebeest.
Escorted bush walks open up the intriguing world of the smaller animals and plants found at Lalibela and offer an opportunity for bird watching.
On thrilling night drives under the vast African sky, we search for the elusive bat-eared fox, aarvark, black-backed jackal, aardwolf and the curious spring hare.
The day programme at Lalibela is ideal for nature lovers whose tight schedule does not allow for an overnight stay at one of the lodges.
The programme starts with tea and coffee at the day centre. A ranger takes you on a 3-hour game drive in an open landrover, traversing the reserve where wildlife roams in profusion and diversity.
A grand safari cuisine lunch is served at the day centre.
How to get there Directions to Lalibela from Port Elizabeth Airport:
As you are exiting the car hire carpark, turn right.
Turn right again at the T-junction.
Almost immediately there is another T-junction with a set of traffic lights. Turn left.
Go over the narrow gauge railway line
At the first set of traffic lights, turn right into Heugh Road.
Continue straight down Heugh Road towards the sea.
At the 4th set of traffic lights on Heugh Road (next to the firestation), turn left onto the M4 elevated highway.
Continue on the M4, past the harbour on your right.
Keep driving until you see the N2 Grahamstown sign, which will lead you onto the N2 in the direction of Grahamstown.
After about 47 km you will come to a large "spaghetti" junction. Follow the signs for N2 Grahamstown.
Drive along the N2 until you cross the Bushman's River.
Exactly 13 km later you will see the large Lalibela sign on your left hand side.
